Adelaide River

Tuesday - We left Edith Falls with the intention of staying somewhere around Adelaide River, but it was not as far as we thought as we where there by lunchtime. Adelaide River became an important town during WW2 after the bombing of Darwin, many airfields where established and the 119 General Army hospital where setup. Also established was a war cemetery where those who perished in the Darwin air raids are buried. The War cemetery is now administered by the Office of Australian War Graves, there are 434 men and women buried there, the youngest being 18. Noting it was still early we decided to continue onto Lichfield National Park.
