Helicopter flight over the Bungles

When we got to the airstrip that services both small planes and helicopters we decided to take a flight this afternoon as they had no bookings and the sun was at it's highest so the views should be great. The chopper was a Robinson 202, smaller than the one we flew in at Mitchell Plateau, they are run by the same company, Heliworks WA, which is one of Grant Kenny's Aviation company's. Chris got to sit with the pilot, but she was not sure of flying with no doors, at one stage I thought she was going to grab his leg but he told her where to hang on, once over the initial takeoff she was ok, it was very windy with the wind at about 20 knots, without doors it was cool so we donned our jumpers. The views where spectacular, unless you take the flight you cannot appreciate how big the range is, when you walk the tracks it seems such a long way until you see it from the air. What amazed us was how green it was on top, and how flat it was. There are some spectacular gorges that run through the Bungles and we got a close look at those, the pilot was very informative with his commentary as we flew around, he knew his stuff. Another thing to cross off the bucket list. Tomorrow we will do the walks in the northern part of the range which is about 30 km from our camp.

This is where we started our walks.

The park was originally part of Marble Downs Station and they used this formation as a natural corral when's they where mustering the cattle, they could easily put up temporary fencing to close off the gap.
